Getting Started

Welcome to Palworld Mobile! The game drops you onto the Palpagos Islands with nothing but your wits and a mysterious device called the Paldex. Your first goal is simple: survive, befriend Pals, and build a base. Unlike other survival games, Palworld lets you capture creatures called Pals to help with combat, crafting, building, farming, and exploration. Think of them as your multi-tool army.

After the opening cutscene, you will wake up near a small shrine. Follow the on-screen tutorial prompts to collect basic resources like Wood, Stone, and Fiber from the ground and nearby trees. These materials are the foundation of every item you will craft in the early game, so get comfortable gathering them.

Pro Tip: Smash the small rocks and chop down trees you see near the spawn point. You will need at least 20 Wood and 20 Stone to build your first workbench and repair your tools.

Your First Hour

The first hour of Palworld Mobile sets the tone for the entire game. Here is a step-by-step checklist to get you off to a strong start:

  • Craft a Stone Pick and Stone Axe — Open your menu (the inventory icon) and craft a Pickaxe and an Axe from the Wood and Stone you collected. These tools let you mine ore and chop trees much faster than punching them.
  • Build a Primitive Workbench — This crafting station unlocks basic recipes like Spheres (for capturing Pals), arrows, and armor. Place it at your temporary camp.
  • Catch your first Pal — Weaken a Lamball or Foxparks by hitting it a few times with your bare fists or a melee weapon, then throw a Pal Sphere. You have your first partner!
  • Set up a campfire — Food spoils over time. A campfire lets you cook raw meat, berries, and other ingredients to restore more hunger and prevent spoilage.
  • Build a bed — A Straw Bed or Shoddy Bed sets your spawn point and lets you sleep through the night, skipping dangerous dark hours.
Pro Tip: Prioritize building a storage chest immediately. Your inventory space is very limited early on, and you will need to stockpile Wood, Stone, Fiber, and Berries.

Choosing Your First Pal

Palworld Mobile features over 100 Pals, but you will only encounter a handful in the starting area. Your early choices matter because your first Pal will carry you through the tutorial zone and into the mid-game. Here are the best options for beginners:

  • Lamball — The most common starter Pal. Lamball has high defense for a beginner Pal and its Wool drops are essential for crafting Cloth and early armor. It can also be assigned to your base to produce Wool automatically.
  • Foxparks — An excellent combat partner early on. Foxparks has a powerful Fire attack that sets enemies on fire. It excels at cooking food in the campfire and smelting ore at a furnace. A top-tier early-game all-rounder.
  • Cattiva — If you plan to focus on base building, Cattiva is your best friend. Its Handiwork and Transporting work suitability makes it invaluable for moving materials and constructing structures.
  • Chikipi — Passive egg-laying makes Chikipi a great addition to any starting base. Eggs cook into high-satiety food, solving your hunger problems early.

Try to catch at least 2-3 of each of these Pals in the first hour. You can assign them to your base or keep them in your party for combat and exploration.

Base Building 101

Your base is the heart of your Palworld Mobile experience. It serves as your home, your resource hub, and your defensive position. Here is what every beginner needs to know about base building:

Choosing a location. Look for a flat area near water and trees. Water gives you access to fishing later, while trees provide infinite Wood. Avoid building too close to enemy spawn points or boss arenas. The starting plateau near the tutorial shrine is a solid choice for your first base.

The Palbox. Your Palbox is the most important structure in the game. It lets you summon Pals from your collection to work at your base, and it serves as your fast travel point. Upgrade it as soon as you can to increase your base radius and Pal capacity.

Workstations. Build a Primitive Workbench, a Stone Furnace (for smelting ore into ingots), and a Wooden Crate for storage. Arrange them under a roof to protect them from weather, which can degrade structures over time.

Base Defense. Even early on, wild Pals and bandits may attack your base. Build Wooden Walls and a Simple Gate around your perimeter. Place a few combat-capable Pals on patrol by assigning them to the base with the "Defend" priority.

Pro Tip: Build multiple Campfires and place them outdoors near your workstations. Pals working at night get a temperature buff that keeps them productive, and you can cook batches of food overnight.

Crafting & Resources

Crafting in Palworld Mobile is divided into tiers. You start with primitive gear made of Wood, Stone, and Fiber. As you progress, you unlock Metal Ingots, Polymer, Pal Oil, and Refined Alloys. Here is the early-game crafting path:

  • Tier 1 (Primitive): Stone tools, Cloth armor, Bow and Arrows, Campfire, Straw Bed, Primitive Workbench, Shoddy Storage.
  • Tier 2 (Metal): Metal Pickaxe, Metal Axe, Furnace, Refined Storage, Nails, Metal Walls and Foundations.
  • Tier 3 (Advanced): Weapons (Handgun, Shotgun, Assault Rifle), Pal Saddles, Refined Armor, Electric Workbench, Power Generator.

Key resources to stockpile from day one: Wood, Stone, Fiber, Paldium Fragments (glowing blue ore found on cliffs), Iron Ore, Coal, Sulfur, and Quartz. Paldium Fragments are especially important because they are used for Pal Spheres — you will need hundreds over the course of the game.

Assign Pals with Mining and Logging work suitability to your base to automate resource gathering. A Digtoise or Rushoar at your base will produce a steady stream of Stone and Ore over time.

Combat & Survival

Combat in Palworld Mobile blends real-time action with Pal abilities. Your primary weapon types include Bows (ranged, silent), Melee weapons (club, spear, sword), and Guns (available mid-to-late game). Each weapon has a durability meter — when it hits zero, the weapon breaks and must be repaired or replaced.

Dodge rolling is your best defensive tool. Tap the dodge button (or double-tap a movement key) to roll out of the way of attacks. Most early enemies telegraph their swings, so timing your dodge is straightforward once you practice.

Pal combat. Your Pals can fight alongside you. Press the Pal summon button to have your active Pal attack your target. Each Pal has a unique active skill tied to its element. Fire Pals deal bonus damage to Grass and Ice types, Water beats Fire, Electric beats Water, and so on. Check the Pal Types Chart for a full breakdown of strengths and weaknesses.

Survival stats. Keep an eye on your Hunger, HP, and Sanity meters. Hunger depletes over time and through combat. Cooked food restores far more hunger than raw food. Sanity drops when you are in dark areas or near certain hostile Pals. Low Sanity causes visual distortions and increased damage taken. Build a campfire or place torches to keep Sanity stable.

Pro Tip: Always carry at least 10 Pal Spheres and 50 Arrows when leaving your base. You never know when you will stumble upon a rare Pal spawn or get ambushed by a group of Syndicate thugs.

Exploration Tips

The Palpagos Islands are vast, with multiple biomes including forests, deserts, snowy mountains, volcanic regions, and swampland. Each biome hosts unique Pals, resources, and bosses. Here is how to explore effectively as a beginner:

  • Unlock fast travel points — Every time you find a glowing statue or a landing pillar, interact with it to unlock it as a fast travel destination. This saves enormous amounts of time later.
  • Bring flying Pals — Once you craft a Pal Saddle for a flying Pal like Nitewing or Vanwyrm, exploration becomes dramatically faster. Flying lets you bypass dangerous ground encounters and spot resource nodes from above.
  • Watch the weather — Some biomes have extreme temperatures. The desert causes heatstroke, and the mountain peaks inflict hypothermia. Craft appropriate armor (Heat Resistant or Cold Resistant) before venturing into these zones. A Crafting Guide covers the required materials.
  • Learn the dungeon layouts — Palworld Mobile has procedural dungeons scattered across the map. They contain rare loot, higher-level Pals, and dungeon-specific boss Pals. Bring plenty of Spheres and healing items before entering.

Next Steps

You have survived your first few hours in Palworld Mobile. You have a base, a handful of Pals, and a basic understanding of the game systems. What should you focus on next?

  • Build toward Metal tools. Gather Iron Ore and smelt it at the Furnace to craft Metal Pickaxe and Metal Axe. These unlock faster gathering and access to stronger building materials.
  • Expand your Paldeck. Explore beyond the starting plateau and catch at least 20 unique Pals. Each new Pal unlocks technology points that let you research new blueprints.
  • Challenge the first Tower Boss. The Rayne Syndicate Tower at the center of the first island is your first major challenge. Level your Pals to at least 15, craft Metal Armor, and bring a team of Fire and Normal type Pals to counter the boss.
  • Start breeding. Once you have a male and female pair of a species, build a Breeding Farm and start producing eggs. Breeding is the key to getting Pals with perfect passive skills and rare elemental types. Read our Breeding Guide for detailed combos.
  • Join the community. Check the Multiplayer Guide to set up co-op sessions with friends or join a dedicated server for a shared world experience.

Palworld Mobile is a deep game with countless hours of content. Take your time, experiment with different Pals, and do not be afraid to rebuild your base as you unlock better technology. The islands are full of surprises — go find them!
